Andy McGhee – Season Review
As announced earlier this year, AMFA are proud to be sponsoring GB athlete, Andy McGhee during his season of arduous challenges. With the season having now come to a close, we take a look back and ponder what’s next in store for Andy as he prepares for the season ahead.
What was your biggest achievement of the season?
My most significant achievement this season was becoming bronze medallist at the Duathlon European Championships in Venice and achieving 10th at the World Championships in Ibiza. This surpassed my expectations for the season as the calibre of athletes is so good and having competed for the last four years, I didn’t think it was attainable.
What was your biggest challenge of the season?
This would be putting my new training regime into fruition which has entailed working on all the weak aspects of my discipline. It has involved increasing strength, implementing plyometrics and continuity within my regular training week.
What challenges are you looking to undertake next?
Personally, to help others achieve within their sport is something I find really rewarding and want to pursue this even further.
What is your main goal for next season?
My goals for next season are to try and consolidate my performance from this season which I never thought achievable. This consolidation is the main focus but if I could take it further and get a first-place finish that would be amazing.
Where can we next see you compete?
Next year I will be competing at the World Championships in Australia and Denmark and at the European Championships in Germany and Spain.
